MEET THE EDITOR
You need an editor who understands your vision, respects your voice and is excited about your work.
I'm Carlie Slattery
I’ve had a lifelong love affair with the written word, so you could say I’m mixing business with pleasure.
I worked in newspapers for 15 years as a sub-editor, contributing to dozens of titles, from big daily metro papers to small weekly community ones. I firmly believe that every word, no matter who wrote it and where it is printed, should be treated with the same professionalism and care.
As a freelancer, I’ve pivoted to include manuscripts in my repertoire and it’s been enormously fun and rewarding. I’m a work-in-progress fiction writer myself, so I understand the blood, sweat and tears that go into every work. It is such an honour to help authors bring their dreams to life.
I have a Bachelor of Arts (Communication Studies) with a major in journalism and creative writing from The University of Newcastle. I have studied fiction editing under accomplished editor Nicola O'Shea, and have completed courses with the Australian Writers' Centre to keep my skills fresh and up to date.
I'm a professional member of the Institute of Professional Editors in Australia, which means clients can have peace of mind that my credentials and experience have been vetted and confirmed by a governing body.
Outside work, I'm busy raising children with my husband and enjoying life in beautiful Northern NSW.
I love coffee, dogs, chilly days, long lunches and a cracking true crime podcast.
REST ASSURED, YOUR WORDS ARE SAFE WITH ME.

No, the name has nothing to do with a certain fictional young wizard.
It refers to my office location — in my home, under my staircase. A remote office means I can work for you, any time, no matter where you are.
